Restaurants
- Kantarou (函太郎) offers top notch "kaitenzushi" conveyor belt sushi and beautiful views from their location on the water overlooking the Tsugaru Strait.
- Lucky Pierrot is a chain of hamburger shops throughout the Hakodate area, each with its own theme. One is decorated with Middle English, angels, and cupids, another with movie posters, and yet another with more Santas then you could possibly count. The menu is diverse, with everything from curry to spaghetti to chinese chicken to whale burgers, and changes from location to location.
- Gotoken (五島軒) opened in 1879. The curry is delicious and widely available at shops throughout Japan. They are well-known for their duck curry.
- Yoshida Shoten serves some of Hakodate's best soup curry, something every visitor to Hokkaido must try.
Bars
- Beatbox Cafe
- Oldies, tucked away on the 5th floor of the MC 6 building in the Honcho area, is probably Hakodate's liveliest karaoke bar. The patrons and staff aren't shy and have actual singing talent, and the nomihodai all-you-can-drink never seems to end. Songs are sung from the front of the room on classic microphones, sometimes with impromptu help from the master himself.
